At two months, Ella became extremely sick with emphysema attacking both her little lungs. She spent almost 6 months at BCCH, from the ER to the wards and then the ICU for 4 months where she passed on March 27th '09 after the fight of her life.<p/>My girlfriends and I walked in her memory to support BCCH Foundation and the families and kids who need/deserve it! I was lucky to be surrounded by Ella's godmom, Danielle, and my friends Stephanie and Yuki here in Vancouver while my friend Marie-Pierre and her daughter Anneliese walked in Ottawa in memory of Ella. We all wore tanks/shirts I made which had Ella's picture, \"Ella forever/Ella pour toujours\" (our team name) on the front and her picture with \"Angel Ella watches over me/Ella l'Ange veille sur moi\", her birthdate/the day she passed and the line that defines Ella: Everyone Loves Little Angels (an acronym that spells Ella's name).<p/>We ended up raising over $2,500; the top fundraising team in Vancouver! A representative from BCCH Foundation even took pictures of us at the event. Overall, it was a day of friendship, laughter and hope. Thank you Walmart for allowing me to honour my Angel Ella in a positive, happy and loving environment.";

Nous portions toutes des débardeurs et des chemisiers que j'avais faits moi-même et sur le devant desquels il était écrit « Ella pour toujours ». Il y avait également une photo d'elle accompagnée de l'inscription « L'ange Ella veille sur moi », de sa date de naissance, de sa date de décès et d'une phrase qui la définit bien : « tout le monde aime les petits anges ».<p/>Nous avons amassé plus de 2 500 $, ce qui fait de nous l'équipe championne pour la collecte de fonds à Vancouver ! Un représentant de la Fondation de l'Hôpital BCCH a même pris des photos de nous lors de l'événement. C'était une journée d'amitié, de rires et d'espoir. Merci Walmart de me donner l'occasion de rendre hommage à mon petit ange dans une ambiance positive, joyeuse et remplie d'amour.";

leonaEN.story = "This was my very first charity event walk and I felt inspired to walk for the Walmart Walk For Miracles after seeing all of the ads in the store and checking out the website. At the time that I signed up I was expecting my nephew to be born at McMaster children's hospital within a few weeks. However, due to unforeseen circumstances our Baby Jack was born in Toronto, a preemie of just 2.66lbs. He is home healthy and growing but I am sure McMaster will still play a part in his after care.  My own personal experience was with my daughter needing the care of McMaster when she had Mono and developed jaundice and was quite sick.<p/>I am glad that I walked and it feels good to participate in something that helps so many people. I signed up alone but as the walk started, I met up with another lady walking alone, named Maxine, and we had an enjoyable chat as we walked.<p/>I would encourage anyone who has the desire to do something that matters but may not have time to volunteer on a regular basis to come out next year and discover the wonderful feeling that comes from being part of this well organized event.  I'm hoping to see you next year!  To all the volunteer organizers-Thank you!";

Après avoir vu la publicité dans une succursale Walmart et consulté son site Internet, j'ai eu envie de participer à la Marche des miracles. Au moment où je me suis inscrite, mon neveu Jack devait naître dans quelques semaines à l'Hôpital McMaster pour enfants. Cependant, sa naissance a dû être devancée. Ce prématuré de 2,66 lb est né à Toronto. Aujourd'hui, il est en santé, mais je suis certaine que McMaster jouera encore un rôle important dans sa vie. J'ai aussi vécu une expérience semblable lorsque ma fille a eu besoin de soins à McMaster pour traiter une mononucléose et une jaunisse.<p/>Je suis heureuse d'avoir participé à la Marche car ça fait du bien de savoir qu'on aide autant de gens. J'étais seule, mais lorsque j'ai commencé à marcher, j'ai rencontré une autre femme seule prénommée Maxine et nous avons eu une conversation très agréable.<p/>J'encourage tous ceux qui souhaitent accomplir quelque-chose de significatif et qui n'ont pas le temps de faire du bénévolat régulièrement à venir l'année prochaine afin de découvrir le sentiment merveilleux qu'on ressent lorsqu'on participe à cet événement bien organisé. robynEN.story = "The Children's Miracle Network, specifically the Winnipeg Children's Hospital is very near and dear to my heart.  My son Josh spent much of his first year in the Children's Hospital.  Without them, I'm not sure if my special little boy would be alive today.<p/>Josh was born with a strawberry birthmark in his throat and on his vocal cords.  If you haven't seen a strawberry birthmark before, normally the ones you notice are on kids' faces.  They continue to grow until the child turns 1 and then the growth slows down.  Unfortunately for Josh, his was in his airway not outside his body and when it grew it blocked his airway and made it difficult for him to breathe and eat.  His first surgery to cut out the birthmark was when he was just 6 weeks old and he had 2 more surgeries and many scopes until he was 9 months old.  We were really lucky that it stopped growing back in his 9th month.  We had the most amazing surgeon and Josh didn't have any damage to his throat or his vocal cords.  We're very blessed that someone at the children's hospital listened to me (I went through 3 pediatricians before one would listen) and scoped his throat and almost immediately performed the surgery.<p/>I owe a lot to the Children's Hospital and participating in this walk is one way I can try to give back.   I'm pleased to report that Josh is 2 and a half now and this was the 3rd annual walk Team Josh participated in – and we had an amazing fundraising result of $3,046.00.";

Celles qu'on remarque sont habituellement situées sur le visage. Elles continuent de grossir jusqu'à ce que l'enfant atteigne l'âge de 1 an, puis la croissance ralentit. Malheureusement pour lui, la sienne était située sur ses organes internes alors quand elle a grossi, elle a obstrué ses voies respiratoires, ce qui a gêné la respiration et l'ingestion de nourriture. À 6 semaines, il a subi sa première opération destinée à enlever la tache. Puis, il a subi 2 autres opérations et plusieurs endoscopies jusqu'à ce qu'il ait 9 mois. Nous avons été chanceux que la tache arrête de grossir. Son chirurgien était exceptionnel, et les organes de Josh n'étaient pas endommagés. Heureusement qu'un pédiatre à l'Hôpital pour enfants m'a écoutée (j'en ai rencontré 3 avant qu'on m'écoute vraiment) et a pratiqué une endoscopie, puis une opération immédiatement après.<p/>Je dois beaucoup à l'Hôpital pour enfants et cette activité constitue un moyen de donner en retour. Josh a maintenant 2 ans et demi et cette Marche était la 3e à laquelle notre équipe participait. Nous avons amassé un montant incroyable de 3 046 $.";

The most recent being TJ, who underwent surgery at 4 months old for Hirschsprungs Disease and he is doing fabulous now.  My other daughter had a short stay at the hospital as a baby, as did my son who was born 5 weeks early and had a few problems with his lungs.  Lisa's eldest son Brandon (who was a one-time patient of Sick kids), joined us for the walk and has suggested we make it an annual \"FAMILY\" event. To which Lisa and I readily agreed.  Brandon was so proud to be there to help other children, knowing how the hospital had helped him, his brother, aunt & uncle.  We are looking forward to the next Walk For Miracles on June 13th 2010.";

Récemment, T.J. a subi une intervention chirurgicale à l'âge de 4 mois pour la maladie de Hirschsprung. Maintenant, il va très bien.  Mon autre fille a déjà fait un court séjour à l'hôpital lorsqu'elle était bébé, tout comme mon fils né 5 semaines avant terme à cause de difficultés pulmonaires. Brandon, le fils aîné de Lisa qui a déjà été traité une fois à l'Hôpital Sick Kids, s'est joint à nous pour la Marche et a suggéré que nous en fassions un événement « FAMILIAL ».
